Title: Mexico. Empire of Iturbide. 1822-JM 2 Reales. Mexico City Mint. KM-303. Silver. MS-63 NGC.
Description: Dies as illustrated. This satiny and lustrous 2 reales offers deep peripheral golden halos that serve to heighten the soft silver-gray central glow. The obverse devices are sharp throughout, including the emperor’s hair strands, and no marks of any measure can be found. The reverse shows some lightness of strike at the eagle’s leg, the design high point, but otherwise all the design elements are sharp and viable. This choice coin is somewhat prooflike in a bold light source. Not a common issue in Mint State, particularly as choice as that offered here. Here is an easy Condition Census example of the date, a coin that ranks among the half dozen finest grading events noted to date at NGC. An attractive piece that can easily serve as an integral part of an Iturbide type set.
NGC Census: 4; 2 finer (MS-65 finest).
