Title: MCMVII (1907) High Relief $20. Wire Rim. MS-61 NGC.
Header: Mint State MCMVII Double Eagle
Wire Rim

Description: The deep yellow-gold surfaces of this perennial favorite offer little in the way of marks to the unaided eye. The strike is crisp as it should be – they were struck multiple times to insure the depth of detail. A high wire rim – a “fin” in Mint technospeak – encircles much of the obverse and a portion of the reverse. This effect was caused simply by excess metal squeezing out of the dies due to the high pressure of multiple strikes. Technicalities aside, the present coin is decidedly choice for the grade and deserving of lively bidder attention.
