Header: Electrum Third-Stater of Lydia
Title: Lydia. Circa 610-546 BC Electrum Third-Stater. Choice VF NGC. Dies as illustrated. Strike: 5 of 5. Surface: 2 of 5.
Description: 4.65 grams. Electrum, the naturally occurring mix of silver and gold from which the world’s first coins were produced in Lydia; the present piece is from the early years of such coins. A warm silvery gold coin with nicely impressed features for the lion and radiate sun obverse design. The holder notes “scuffs” on the coin, but they are minor and best seen with your loupe. Here’s an opportunity to bring your type set back to the near-beginnings of coinage in the ancient world.
