An enignatic set with perforations that are easily recognized upon first inspection as vastly finer than the issued notes and even more so than the rare Fr.1310a. Our measurements conclude these are 15 and one half perforations per 20 millimeters of edge length. This lot last sold in a September 2006 sale where it was described as "Perforated 16 Set," although we feel the 15 1/2 assessment is more accurate. We are only aware of three groups of these superfine perforated notes with this set having sold for $4,887.50 in the previously mentioned 2006 sale. Another full set that was once part of the F.C.C. Boyd Estate brought $6,037.50 in a June 2005 sale. Lastly a partial set that sold without the 50 Cent denomination once within the O'Mara Collection. A single Five Cent note was also featured in a September 2007 sale and brought $1,036 in a PMG 64 EPQ grade. The provenance of these has yet to be confirmed and the set that was sold by Stack's Bowers was described as: "An amazing set of First Issue specially perforated notes. Includes 5c, 10c, 25c, and 50c denominations. All with the ABN Monogram. The perforations on each are ultra-fine and make the Fr.1310a perforated 14 seem coarse. Not in Milton and the ony other examples we know of are in the O'Mara Collection Sale. In that sale, they are referred to as "Perforated 16" variety. However, the O'Mara Sale lacked the 50c note featured in this set. We did not measure, but they seem like they might be "Perforated 20", they are that fine. The provenance of this set is spectacular as this came from Spinner himself, according to a slip of paper included with it. Hopefully, this information is true and is not another product of Harlan P. Smith. The small slip reads: "Spinner's present to his personal friend". At the right in column form "5 10 25 50" and at the lower left "Superfine perforations" and date "1-25-07". Wonderful condition. Each note with some light tone to it. Essentially About Uncirculated to Crisp Uncirculated. Condition matters little versus the rarity and unusual nature to this group. 4 pieces." PCGS Currency mentions "Probable Private Perforation," on each. All shows with the comment by PCGS "Pinholes." Includes the following; Fr. 1230 in About New 53; Fr. 1242 in Choice New 58; Fr. 1281 in About New 53; Fr. 1312 in Choice About New 58.
