Kingdom of Hawaii, Lahainaluna Seminary.
Lot of (6) notes. All backed at issue. These very rare Seminary notes from Hawaii are truly a numismatic treasure. The notes were likely produced from the first printing press in the former Island nation being the Hale Pa’i, translating to house of printing. This printing house was established in 1834, just three short years after a group of Protestant missionaries came to the islands and soon after founded the Lahainaluna Seminary. The small format notes all show themes of education with Industry, law, science, geography, education and a map of the islands. Lahainaluna Seminary is now known as Lahainaluna High School, still operated today. Every note included in the group is of the Altered Plate Secret Mark Variety. The grades in order of catalog number are as follows; PMG 63; 62; 58; 63; 62; 63. An outstanding group with the last we are aware of selling for $25,300 in a January 2009 public sale.
