A unique-shaped gold koban with tapered sides from Tosa province, which is modern day Kochi prefecture on the island of Shikoku. The obverse has horizontal crenulations and stamps. The stamps from top-to-bottom are: a paulownia flower, 1 Ryo (the denomination), and Tosa at the bottom. This coin is located in book 4 of KGZ which identifies local coin issues. This type was possibly created as far back as the late 1500's, but it’s unknown when this particular piece was minted. Condition is Almost Uncirculated with some light circulation and tooling marks. Weight 15.39g.
