Hailing from old Mutsu province, which was divided in the Meiji era, this koban is a special shape used commonly in Japan as a “Fundo,” or copper balance weight. Takekawa reports that these koban were a bullion weight of gold in the Mutsu province gold reserves. Certified upside-down in the holder. Weight 16.14g.
