There were several family clans allowed to make gold coinage in Koshu. Most of the surviving coins were made by the Matsuki clan. This interesting piece is stamped with the Yamashita clan name, which makes it a scarcer piece. Weight is listed as 4 monme. This type was probably minted as far back as the early 1600's, and is probably one of the later Koshu coin types minted. The Koshu area saw production of gold coinage into the 1800's. Weight 14.8g
