日本 牛舌大判金 玩賞品 金銀図録 5-17 竹川-60 約114.03g PCGS AU-50

This large gold piece is named after the shape resembling an ox tongue (diamond shape). The Giuzetsu Gold Oban, possibly from the Kaga area, is a famous type hailing from possibly as far back as the late 1500's. Listed in KGZ book 5, which covers "other old items" that are not local coins nor fantasies. The value is mentioned as 12 monme 2 bu in gold. Takegawa states that the "middle is of inferior gold." The obverse features wide horizontal crenulations with center characters of a lost meaning. A countermark with five dots is stamped in four places around the edge. The reverse has two maker's marks and a surface suggesting an older minting process however, it’s unknown when it was minted. A patch of dark toning at the bottom. Weight 114.03g.
