Description: 1853 DERIB octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-526, Die State II (obverse shattered; reverse with many rim breaks, including one to C). PCGS AU55. High Rarity 6. Two of these were likewise recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Winfield Scott, which sailed December 1, 1853. Similar obverse, but 4th star too small; same reverse. Deriberpie’s only other use of the DERIB die. Even golden brown color, wear evident on high spots. PCGS AU55 William C. O’Connor (PCGS# 10503). PCGS POP 5 + 7.
