Title: Great Britain. George III. 1797 Twopence or Cartwheel. Peck-1078; S-3776 for Type. Bronzed Restrike. Proof-64 BN NGC
Description: Soho Mint Coinage, Birmingham. Coin alignment. Much soft underlying luster glows warmly on the golden-brown surfaces of this impressive cartwheel two-penny piece. The central areas are a shade or so lighter than the surrounds, adding a faint but engaging cameo effect throughout. The strike is sharp and exacting, and the eye appeal is likewise impressive. An obverse die crack from the rim across the exergue and through the hair to a point below the king’s earlobe suggests the restrike status of this specimen. Choice for the grade, and one for the specialists.
