Title: Gorgeous Rainbow Toning!
Description: 1853 D. round Half D, BG-421, Second Issue, Die State IV (clash visible at nose). PCGS MS62. Known to have actually been issued in 1853, because one was recovered from the wreck of the sidewheel steamer S.S. Winfield Scott, which departed on its final voyage December 1, 1853. Similar obverse, but period within D, 8th star above bun and almost touches it; same reverse die. Another signed Deriberpie issue. Awesome rainbow toning surrounds the head of Liberty, and fills the field on the reverse while the inscription is highlighted in gold. PCGS MS62 William C. O’Connor (PCGS# 10457).
