“Chain mesh gold purse. This is known as the “Jakovetz purse.” It was given to the wife of a major of the Imperial Guard, Ivan R. Jakovetz, by the wife of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia, as a reward for saving one of their daughters, Tatiana. Ivan Ivanovitch Jakovetz, his son, was one of 26 cadets who wee the last troops obedient to the government during the Bolshevik Revolution. The purse came through the Civil War, the war of 1939 and was kept as a family treasure until the death of I.I. Jakovetz 10 years ago. Acquired by the consignor directly from the family. Nineteenth-century French workmanship. Exceptional and impressive—a quarter pound of gold!”
