Doubly signed remainder by F.W. McGeary and C.C. Biddle. This is the much rarer $10 type with added text on right, “Receivable everywhere by the United States/in payment of duties [,] taxes & public lands”. The design also features a spread eagle and motto E Pluribus Unum in ribbon and geometric lathe design around all borders.
A solid Very Fine specimen described by the Ford Collection cataloger, “the eye appeal is superior to that technical grade and some might be tempted to call it finer. Some of the typical, tight trimming that is characteristic to the series, but a sharp example from this very underrated type.” We concur.
There are only seven known specimens of this type with this being tied for the Second Finest Known. So scarce that the Taylor Family was unable to acquire one.
Friedberg and Kagin Plate Note. KL-P12.
