Fully issued triple signatures, but hole cancel of 25mm to the right of center. Signed by F.W. McGeary and C.C. Biddle ‘in behalf of the United States’ and Countersigned by the Register of the Treasury, Joseph Nourse. No interest, but redeemable for 7% stock. Spread eagle at upper right with ray above and “FIFTY”. Ornate geometrically ruled panels each side.
All known examples of these fully signed $50 notes are cancelled. A partial hammer cut cancel was laid down first before the hole cancel was applied. A tiny repair in the upper left corner is the only flaw keeping this from being a New note. Interesting scattered red and blue fibers throughout.
We known of only 11 known specimens with this being the Finest Known. With the two unique fully signed $3 and $10 notes (the latter being offered for the first time in this sale), these fully signed $50s are the only way most collectors will be able to acquire a countersigned Treasury Note.
Kagin Plate Note. KL-P15.
