Fr. 107. 1880 $10 Legal Tender Note. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 69 EPQ.
The ultimate note for the collector seeking the finest available of material. This note is one of just two pieces graded by PMG at this stratospheric level with consideration of all other large-size designs. Even at the Superb Gem Uncirculated 68 EPQ, occurrences are rare with just a small handful of notes seen within the PMG population report. The technical quality needed to achieve such a grade goes beyond what even the most trained eyes can see as even magnified details throughout the note are heavily scrutinized. Fortunately, for collectors the note to achieve this grade is one of the more attractive with this 1880 Legal Tender exhibiting a popular large-red-spiked treasury seal and a vignette of Pocahontas being presented to the English royal court.

The famous “Jackass,” design, as collectors have come to call this note is a trait observed with inverted viewing of the small Bald Eagle vignette at lower center.
As mentioned, just two large-size federally issued notes have achieved this grade. The other, a 1923 One Dollar Legal Tender, while popular, is certainly not on the level of appeal as this ornate 1880 series $10 note. With the tens of thousands of large-size notes graded by PMG, and this and the other being the lone two for the grade, we would anticipate this population of two Superb Gem Uncirculated 69 EPQ notes to remain static for the foreseeable future as the quantity of notes PMG has yet to grade grows smaller with each passing day. We are certain that the fortunate collector to secure this trophy note will tightly hold this practically perfect note. Bid accordingly.
