Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly Passed May 24, MDCCLX (1760). Ten Shillings or Crowns Two or 120 Pence. Fr. VA-44CF. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Edge Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Thicker laid paper. Serial No. 9864. “Signed” by Ben. Waller and Phil. Johnson. Printer uncertain. Uniface. 87mm by 57mm. A rare note, even as a counterfeit. The paper quality is substantial regardless of its origin. “A Contemporary Counterfeit from a fairly crude plate, differing from the genuine note in the previous lot,” according to the Ford writer. (See the previous lot in this sale for visual comparisons.) Tightly margined and lightly inked. An alert collector with a bent toward the unusual has plenty of opportunities in this offering to acquire a counterfeit note – no collection should be without one!

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VIII, January, 2005, Lot 1659. (Ford Price Realized: $575)
