Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly Passed June 8, 1757. Two Shillings & Six Pence. Fr. VA-7. PCGS Very Good-10 Details. Tears, Piece Missing, Backed, Reassembled. As illustrated.

Description: Thin laid paper. Serial No. 11849. Signed by John Randolph. Printed by William Hunter. Uniface. 81mm by 63mm. Only one signature was required on the four lowest denominations in this Act. A rare early series on Virginia, that state a Johnny-come-lately to the colonial note scene. Barter, especially in tobacco, ran the commerce of Virginia, and the concept of paper money took a while to catch on there. PCGS was fair and accurate on the present note, describing its faults to the proverbial “T.” Precisely as offered in Ford, no more, and no less. The earliest Virginia note in the current offering.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VIII, January, 2005, Lot 1642. (Ford Price Realized: $690)
