Counterfeit C. Bechtler $5 Gold. Kagin-CTF-7 (K-23). With 128 G., 22 Carats, Star. Georgia Gold. Brass. Plain Edge. Rarity-8. Unique. 93 grains. VG.
This well-worn brass piece has toed to deep olive throughout. The surfaces are lightly granular under a loupe, but no serious circulation marks are present to the unaided eye. We note a deeper toing spot at the D of GOLD, perhaps the result of a long-ago “acid test” to see if there was any actual gold content in this piece. Gold or not, this either served as a pocket piece for decades, or was actually useful in commerce despite its nature judging by the amount of wear present. Rare and intriguing.

Obverse: GEORGIA GOLD. at rim from 9 to 4 o’clock around, 128.G. at center, inverted five-pointed star beneath, 22 CARATS. curves at rim beneath star.
Reverse: C: BECHTLER. AT RUTHERF: and star around, 5 at center, DOLLARS. curves below.

Die Alignment: about 260 degrees.
