Colony of the Massachusetts Bay. July 8, 1775. Sixteen Shillings. Fr. MA-155. PCGS Choice Fine-15 Details. Repairs, Backed. As illustrated.

Description: Printed on laid paper from plate engraved by Paul Revere. Serial No. 4717. Signed by Hall and Gardner. 167mm by 81mm. Uniface. Backed with period laid paper with a penciled notation upper right that reads “at 11-20-30 Elder Sale.” Well-margined and bright, an appealing survivor from an authorization of 667 notes. Most of these were worn to pieces, literally, in circulation, and many others were cancelled or otherwise removed from commerce. That any specimens survive today is a lasting tribute to earlier generations of collectors. That the present note exists in such a pleasing state of preservation is a call to today’s specialists to further preserve this historical bit of pocket change from our colonial era.
