Colony of South Carolina. Hand-Written September 11, 1769. Fifty Pounds. Fr. SC-67. PCGS Very Good-10 Details. Multiple Repairs, Design Redrawn. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 129. Signed by Tho. Evance, unlisted signer for the issue, D. Huger, J. Lloyd, vertically, unlisted signer of the issue, and Jacob Motte, Pub. Treas. Printer uncertain. Two-Sided. 152mm by 112mm. Amazingly, here is a second example of Fr. SC-67, but with a slightly higher serial number than the note in the preceding lot. Though a supposed notch down the grading scale from the previous note, the inking here is somewhat deeper throughout, especially on the face. The hand-written elements have faded somewhat over the centuries, but everything is still clear and certain. Boyd’s “myxy” code on backing strip. Easily as rare as its immediate counterpart in the lot above. On those infrequent occasions when early Colony of South Carolina paper comes into the hobby, notes from this particular issue always commands respect.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 804. (Ford Price Realized: $3,162.50)
