Colony of Rhode Island. Warwick. December 2, 1740. Five Shillings. Fr. RI-39PR. PCGS About Uncirculated-50 Details. Repaired Edge Tear. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. No Serial number. Not Signed. Printed by John Coddington. Uniface. 86mm by 120mm. Black ink bold in some places, somewhat lighter in others. Regarding this rare item, the Ford cataloger offered the following: “Not signed nor numbered. Most likely an early reprint from the original plate. However, cataloged in Mr. Ford’s notes as a remainder,” then going on to say that “Newman cites reprints in his reference, however this example is from an old collection even before it entered Boyd, and perhaps Chapman.” Either way, it is still an intriguing anomaly in the colonial and Rhode Island notes discipline. An exceptional note, one that would be welcomed in any specialized Rhode Island currency collection.
