Colony of Rhode Island. South Kingstown. February 2, 1741/42. Two Shillings and Six Pence or Half A Crown (Ten Shillings O.T., Old Tenor). Fr. RI-46. PCGS Choice Fine-15 Details. Severed and Reattached, Multiple Restorations. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 4957. Signed by D. Updike, in red, Jahleel Brenton, and John Gardner. Printed by William Claggett. Two-Sided. 75mm by 105mm. A fine note in appearance, now with far less of the staining that plagued the paper in Ford III, particularly on the back. Greatly improved to our eyes, and in a positive manner. Called “Very Good or so” in Ford, but thought more highly of by PCGS in recent times, qualifiers and all. A rarity in any grade, and missing from many important Rhode Island paper cabinets over the years, continuing right into present times.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 570. (Ford Price Realized: $6,037.50)
