Colony of Rhode Island. South Kingstown. February 2, 1741/42. Six Pence (Two Shillings O.T., Old Tenor). Fr. RI-43. PCGS About Uncirculated-50 Details. Small Edge Split. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 1429. Signed by Jahleel Brenton, Edward Scott, in red ink, and John Dexter. Printed by William Claggett. Two-Sided. 77mm by 110mm. An extraordinary note wherein great aesthetic appeal and physical quality combine. The paper is faintly toned but in a pleasing manner, and the signatures are strong as well, the red signature a bit less bold. Free of all but the tiniest of problems, and a grand note all told! Newman Plate Note. When it came time to describe this note, the Ford writer exclaimed: “The series is very rare for any note, however, this example has to be considered extraordinary. It might very well be the finest genuine note on the issue date, if not the finest of any note on this issue date.” High praise, indeed, for a note that turned out to be a block-buster! The bidding was furious from the beginning for this lot in Ford III, and when the fury subsided, one of the stars of the sale was born. It still shines as brightly today!
