Colony of Rhode Island. Providence. November 6, 1775. Forty Shillings. Fr. RI-217. PCGS About Uncirculated-50 Details. Minor Masking. As illustrated.

Description: . Laid paper. Serial No. 134. Signed by John Dexter, in red, Jos. Clarke, and John Cole, in red. Printed by John Carter. Two-Sided. 71mm by 106mm. Lovely paper with deep inking in most places, some minor lightness in peripheral areas, tight margins three sides, larger bottom margin. This Forty Shillings note represents the highest denomination on this Act; only 1,500 notes were printed. As the Ford writer noted: “This is another impressive example and the companion for perhaps a century or more with the above Thirty Shillings.” (See preceding lot.) It would be nothing short of wonderful if these two notes – the Thirty Shillings offered above and this Forty Shillings – could remain together still for another generation or longer.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XV, October, 2006, Lot 8671. (Ford Price Realized: $2,530)
