Colony of Rhode Island. East-Greenwich. June 16, 1775. One Shilling. Fr. RI-188. PCGS Extremely Fine-40. No qualifiers. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 4920. Signed by Tho. Greene. Printed by John Carter. Uniface. 70mm by 100mm. “The one shilling note would have been a real workhorse in circulation and a high-grade example has to be considered an exceptional condition rarity,” wrote the Ford cataloger, and precious little has changed since those words were written 17 years ago. A beautiful note, evenly margined with only modest fading to the inked imprint and red signature and serial number. Choice throughout.
