Colony of New-York. September 15, 1755. Three Pounds or 60 Shillings. Fr. NY-143. PCGS Good-6 Details. Internal Repairs, Paper Separated. Thicker coarse paper. As illustrated.

Description: Serial No. faint and uncertain; the Ford writer guessed at “456?” Signatures faint and not clearly discernable. Uniface. Printed by James Parker. Standard size. Anti-raising device of three dumbbells. It’s Death To Counterfeit This Bill, first appearance of the apostrophe in the warning. The paper is an appealing deep beige, and the pressed ink designs are fairly crisp for the grade, all deep and easily read. Corners rounded and a few other trifling curatorial details, but still a substantial example of a rare and elusive New-York note.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 628. (Ford Price Realized: $891.25)
