Colony of New-York. May 10, 1746. Ten Pounds or 200 Shillings. Fr. NY-113. PCGS Choice Fine-15 Details. Internal Damage, Backed. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 2541. Signed by Corn. V. Horne, Paul Richard, and Hen. Cruger. Uniface, old paper backing. Printed by James Parker, printer of New-Jersey money at Woodbridge in that colony. Standard size. Two five-pound weight images are part of the imprint to discourage “raising” the value. The serial number of the note, 2541, is just shy of the total notes printed, 2,600 all told. Warm golden paper supports fairly strong inking, the signatures particularly bold. Nicely centered as well. This is a very rare issue date in the New-York colonial note series, and its performance in then Ford sale spoke volumes about its status. Aesthetically and physically sound at every turn, old backing paper and all.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 619. (Ford Price Realized: $1,265)
