Colony of New-York. July 21, 1746. Five Pounds or 100 Shillings. Fr. NY-118. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35. No qualifiers. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 4285. Signed by A. Lynsen, I. De Peyster, and C.V. Horne. Uniface. Printed by James Parker. Standard size. One five-pound weight image is part of the imprint to discourage “raising” the value. Its Death To Counterfeit This Bill. About as fine as today’s specialists will ever encounter for this Five Pounds note issue. An exceptional note called “impossible to improve upon and perhaps the finest known on the issue,” noted the Ford writer. The results of the bidding on this lot when offered in Ford 19 years ago were substantial. All these years later, we expect a new generation of colonial note fanciers will be in the fray at bidding time.
