Colony of New-York. July 20, 1711. Half an Ounce of Plate, or Four Shillings. Indented Bill. Fr. NY-13. PCGS Choice Extremely Fine-45 Details. No qualifiers, Mounting Remnants noted. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 4700. Signed by R. Lurting and R. Walter. Uniface. Printed by William Bradford. 107mm by 160mm. A beautiful note for the grade, even with minor foxing and a few tiny edge chips. “A very rare issue and a desirable note. These are much less frequently seen than 1709 early notes,” said the Ford writer, and we have no reasons to doubt any of his assessments. In the text, the word “Fund” is spelled “Fond.” A beautiful Indented Bill Note, alight with deep ink on smooth paper, and about as fine as any collector today is apt to see. A definite highlight from Ford’s amazing holdings, and a note that should outshine its own stellar performance of 19 years ago!

Pedigree: From the Sotheby Park-Bernet sale of the J. William Middendorf Collection, May, 1973, Part of Lot 4, Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, May, 2004, Lot 612. (Ford Price Realized: $17,250)
