Colony of New-York. February 16, 1756. Ten Pounds or 200 Shillings. Fr. NY-147. PCGS Choice Almost Uncirculated-58 Details. Altered Serial Number. As illustrated.

Description: Thicker coarse paper. Serial No. 454, altered from its original No. 76. Signed by J. Watts, W. Walton, and Hen. Cruger. Uniface, dark back. Printed by James Parker. Standard size. Anti-raising device of two dumbbells marked “V.” Its Death To Counterfeit This Bill, no apostrophe. Evenly centered and boldly impressed, the deep black vignettes immediately engage the viewer’s eye. It is difficult to imagine notes of this quality, and few collectors ever get to appreciate one of this caliber in the quiet of their own study. Given the extraordinary rarity factor of the present note, it is somewhat doubtful that another of this quality exists. The Ford cataloger gave the following history: “Since any grade note from this one-denomination type would be an achievement for a New York collector, the subsequent [serial number] alteration should be discounted or even dismissed.” One glance here, and you too will “dismiss” the one shortcoming of this otherwise perfect New York note. A definite giant among this or any other offering.
