Colony of New-York. December 10, 1737. Three Pounds. Fr. NY-100. PCGS Very Fine-30 Details. Small Pieces Replaced, Small Restorations. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 26773. Signed by S. Johnson, James Alexander, and S. Rowe. Uniface. Printed by John Peter Zenger, his imprint not present. 100mm by 55mm. The images of three one-pound weights are a part of the face printing, this as an aid to thwart unscrupulous persons from “raising” the denomination. This December 10, 1737 New-York series of notes is the only series printed by John Peter Zenger, whose acquittal in an important libel case helped to establish freedom of the press in America. Choice for the grade in appearance and overall quality, margins a trifle tight but full design present, penciled notation on verso.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 614. (Ford Price Realized: $2,760)
