Colony of New-York. December 10, 1737. Ten Pounds. Fr. NY-102. PCGS Very Fine-30 Details. Small Edge Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 5800. Signed by Peter Schuyler, Peter Jay, and C. Van de Veer. Uniface. Printed by John Peter Zenger, his imprint not present. 100mm by 55mm. Two five-pound weight images are part of the imprint to discourage “raising” the value. Nicely margined and well-imprinted, with substantial eye appeal. Penciled “nryx” on verso. The Ford cataloger praised this particular note at length, writing “One of the finest known on the issue…an incredible example, from an important issue of early New-York notes, and very likely to bring a surprisingly high price; it merits it.” We could not agree more.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 616. (Ford Price Realized: $4,887)
