Description: Thick paper watermarked NEW JERSEY. Leaf imprint on back. No Serial number. Signed only by Hendrick Fisher. 111mm by 64mm. Two-Sided, red denomination on face, otherwise black, back in black. Printed by Isaac Collins, Burlington. A spectacular note in many ways, chief among them the outright paper quality. The centering is as fine as ever seen, and the impressions are bold, especially on the face. The warm golden paper is an excellent background. This rare Remainder note is likely from the “raid” notes of the era, according to the Ford writer. It seems the British raided a storage area and confiscated an untold amount of notes, mostly pre-signed by John Hart, a future signatory to the Declaration of Independence. The British added spurious signatures and placed the notes in circulation to bungle the local economy. A must-have if you appreciate the intricacies of the New Jersey colonial note series.
