Title: Clam Shell Strings for Warriors
Description: Natives of Baelelea, North Malaita, in the Solomon Islands, made keta kome, rings fashioned from clam shells. Pairs of strings of these rings were worn about the legs just below the knee in ceremonial dances, to gain the support of their ancestors, before setting off to battle. All keta kome strings were made in the 19th century or earlier. This set of two strings is illustrated in Opitz, p. 175, bottom left.
