City and County of Albany. June 22, 1775. Two Shillings New-York Currency. Fr. NY-171.1. PCGS Choice Extremely Fine-45 Details. Repairs, Severed and Reattached, Backed. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 1056. Signed by Jacob Lansing, Jr., Jacob C. Ten Eyck, and Abraham Yates, Jr., in faded red ink. Uniface. 111mm by 55mm. An exceptional rarity, and a note that holds up well in-hand. The face is deeply inked, and the centering is solid for the most part. The curation of this note improved its chances of survival for future generations, and the work that was performed is nothing short of magical. When first offered in the Ford sale, this note – and its series denomination mates to follow -- had never appeared at public auction. Some 17 years later, this rare prize is offered to another generation of collectors and specialists. Rare enough that some readers have never seen an example, much less had an opportunity to bid for a specimen. Destined for addition to a long-term cabinet.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XV, October, 2006, Lot 8312. (Ford Price Realized: $632.50)
