City and County of Albany. February 17, 1776. Two Shillings or One Fourth Spanish Milled Dollar in Continental Currency. Fr. NY-184.3. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Repaired Splits. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 20. Signed by Jacob Cuyler and Jn. T. Beekman, in red. Uniface. 83mm by 56mm. A spectacular note at every turn. The face is evenly centered, the ink there strong, signatures and serial number likewise. The PCGS qualifier is a boon, not a burden. This bold impression is nearly as boldly represented on the verso. “Likely the highest Condition Census example on the series. We can’t imagine a finer example,” wrote the Ford specialist 17 years ago; we do not believe any finer pieces have been uncovered in the interim. A beautiful note, aesthetically charming and historically important. The city of Albany would become the Capital of New York after statehood.
