Title: (b)Chief-worn Bakhia—Red, White, and Blue[/b]
Description: On Santa Isabel, Solomon Islands, breast ornaments called bakhia were made. They consist of a shell ring about 40% wound with native fiber so that it can be hung around the neck. Worn only by chiefs, they were very valuable. This example is enhanced by the addition of red, white, and blue glass beads. It is pictured in Opitz, p. 30, upper left corner, and the NNP edition, https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/541824?page=41, lower left.
