Black ink on off-white paper, red ink manuscript additions. 7-1/2 x 8-1/4". One of the most interesting assay deposit forms in the series, issued by a famous 5.5. Central America assayer, a personage missing entirely from the Ford Collection of assay receipts. The top of the form includes a delightful vignette of a hand, reaching down from adiant clouds, holding an assay scale. This form, issued to the banking house of D.O., Mills & Co., was for a 175.87 ounce deposit of ore that assayed at .892 fine gold. Many of the 34 ingots from Blake's Sacramento office found among the Central America treasure were of similar fineness. This is one of fewer than a dozen known of this fonn, and the number may be far fewer. In decades of chasing these forms, Ford never found a single one from Blake & Co. This one is in lovely condition, showing just minor folds, and is ready for display.
