August 1, 1834. C. Bechtler $5 Gold. Kagin-17. Rarity-5. With 140 G, No Beads. Plain Edge. AU-55 NGC.
This lightly circulated deep golden specimen exhibits a great deal of sunset orange toning, especially in a bold light source. Scattered marks are present under low magnification, as befits a coin that circulated for a brief spell, but no individual mark besets the unaided eye. This popular Bechtler half eagle variety that ascribes to the U.S. standards of 1834 for purity and value is available in NGC holders in many grades today, up to and including Choice Mint State, but the example offered here offers high grade, physically sound quality, and a value that makes it accessible to many collectors. A great opportunity awaits our bidders.
