Header:
Description: Dies as illustrated. 36 mm. Frosty and mattelike pewter-gray surfaces with some deeper toning at the legends. This interesting rarity, issued by Charles E. Sealey, a Canadian born of American parents and a sometime-merchant, represents a rare piece of the history of the Yukon Gold Rushes. Produced in the shape of a miner’s sluice pan with a central gold-plated “nugget,” this token must have played well with customers in those heady times. As the “nugget” suggests, Sealey also became involved with the local mining scene. Rare and intriguing, these tokens are as much a part of the Pioneer coinage series as the more famous gold issues. If past performance for offerings of this rarity are any indication, this piece will cause a bidding uproar with results that may well surprise our bidders.
