A Second High Grade $100 Kirtland Note. 1837 $100 Kirtland Safety Society Bank. Kirtland, OH. Nyholm 4. Rust 11. PMG Very Fine 25. S/N 72 July 4. The second $100 note to be offered also bearing the very late date of July 4. The Kirtland $100 is always in high demand as the highest denomination. Although a few more are available than the previous $50, both are quite scarce and offered only occasionally. $100 Kirtland notes actually come in two different sub-types; there is a light printing as this note has, while others are noticeably printed darker and more boldly. There does not appear to be one which is rarer than the other and neither demands a premium. I doubt that any collector of Kirtland’s would strive to attain both or even care. This note offers a great opportunity to complete or add a $100 to your collection. The vignette depicting the signing of the Declaration Of Independence is also a deviation of the rural scenes on all other denominations.

Finally, this note exhibits a very unusual signature combination of W. Parrish and F.G. Williams. At the time of Nyholm’s book in 2010 only four others were known.
