1936 Brilliant Finish. Proof-67 PCGS. CAC.
This especially brilliant and mirrored Proof Buffalo nickel represents the first year of Proof coinage in the series since 1916. The strike is exceptional with every tiny detail presented to its fullest on both sides. The silver-white brightness is enhanced by the extreme concave effect from the rims, reflecting the depth of strike and careful preparation of the dies that occurred. The mintage for Proofs of the date is 4,420 pieces, a figure that was divided fairly evenly between the first batch of 1936-dated Proofs with Satin Finish and the later Proofs of the date with Brilliant Finish as offered here. The Mint’s employees may – or may not – have forgotten how to make a Matte Proof Buffalo in the ensuing 20 years since the last Proofs left the presses, but this bright, chrome-like finish was bedazzling and eagerly accepted by the collectors of the pre-World War II era. Both PCGS and CAC thought highly of this coin, and we expect bidders will react in much the same manner.

PCGS Population: More than 180 grading events for Brilliant Proofs of the date have been noted as Proof-67, including 28 designated as “+;” 8 finer events have been recorded, the finest a solitary Proof-69.
