1929 MS-63 PCGS.
This satiny and boldly lustrous half eagle from the terminal date of the series and denomination brings new definition to the MS-63 classification. The rich honey-gold surfaces enjoy lively peach and faint sky blue iridescence that practically dances across your field of vision – the brighter the light, the livelier the dance you’ll behold. A few faint marks can be found as befits the grade, but more important than that, the luster is rich and completely unbroken on the design high points.

Though the Mint struck 662,000 half eagles of the date in 1929, only a small percentage of the issue ever saw the light of day, the greater balance remaining in storage; there are numerous lightly circulated AU examples known however. It is believed that when the government began melting gold coins during Roosevelt’s “Bank Holiday,” much of the mintage for this date probably found its way to the Mint’s crucibles. The end result was a key-date scarcity that has excited numismatists ever since. Fortunately for today’s collectors, this date survived in sizeable quantities and even a low-range Mint State coin is not out of the reach of many collectors. We believe high marks for overall eye appeal, quality, and scarcity are in order for this example, making the lightning round of bidding excitement that will accompany this lot something that will be well remembered long after this specimen finds its new home.
