Lovely pastel shades of rose-gold immediately engage the viewer’s eye on this attractive half dollar, a coin worthy of both its “+” designation and its CAC recognition. This boldly rendered specimen exhibits the broad, flat rims of the 1916-1917 half dollars that were true to Weinman’s design type. Within the four mintmarked issues of the date, the 1917-S with obverse mintmark occupies the apex of the quartet in Mint State grades. Indeed, it outperforms the other three issues by a factor of two or more times in the AU and higher Red Book value columns. Tied for finest “+” example of this key date seen by PCGS, a notable accomplishment. We anticipate strong bidding support for this lot, so plan your strategy accordingly.

PCGS Population: 9; none finer within the “+” designation.
