This lustrous branch mint half dollar exhibits warm halos of deep crimson and soft gold iridescence at both rims. The strike is typical for the date with some trifling weakness at Liberty’s cap and fingers, otherwise the sharpness is strong. The 1917-D half dollar with mintmark on obverse had a modest mintage of 765,400 pieces, the lowest such figure among the four mintmarked issues of the year. Here is an MS-64 example of the date that goes a step further with its “+” and CAC designations! The present specimen ranks high among the finest examples of the date called “+” by PCGS, as noted below.

PCGS Population: 12; 3 finer within the “+” designation, all MS-65+.
