Bright and lustrous with lively cartwheel activity and a whisper of faint golden iridescence on the obverse; the reverse rim is afire with a halo of violet-crimson iridescence. Just like its San Francisco Mint compatriot of the previous year, the 1884-S Morgan dollar is scarce in AU and rare in Mint State; much of the mintage saw active day-to-day use in commerce during the era, and modestly to heavily circulated examples of the date are the norm in the numismatic marketplace. The top of an errant 1 and the curves of its neighbor 8 digit can be plainly seen – under low magnification of course -- in the denticles beneath the 18 of the date. PCGS #7156
