1878-CC Trade Dollar. EF-45 NGC.
This rich silver gray specimen enjoys a whisper of pale rose iridescence with a hint of blue throughout. Evenly circulated for a fairly long spell but not noticeably marked to the unaided eye. Even with the aid of a loupe you’ll find its stay in pocket change was not damaging to any extent. Only 97,000 trade dollars were struck in Carson City in 1878; this is significant as 44,148 trade dollars were melted there on July 19, 1878. Considering the scarcity of the date, it is thought that some of the melted trade dollars could have been dated 1878-CC. This year ends the circulation strike lifetime of the trade dollar series, but what a way to end. The 1878-CC is a desirable key date to the circulation strike issues in the design type. When offered in a dynamic collector grade such as the EF-45 example offered herein, serious collectors queue up for the opportunity to bid. Don’t be left out when the bidding excitement begins for this lot.
