1876 Type I/II. Proof-63 DCAM PCGS. CAC.
Here is one of the visual highlights of this great trade dollar collection, at least in the writer’s eyes. The frosted central devices on each side are largely mint brilliant with only a trace of the toning that outwardly deepens to pale rose gold. This coin is not toned deeply, but rather in a subtle manner so that it takes a moment to appreciate the complex interplay of frost, toning, and reflectivity. Sure, there are finer Proofs of the date available – not many if you intend to have a DCAM specimen – but both CAC and the writer seemingly feel the same attachment to this beauty. Absolutely choice for the assigned grade and certain to stir up some bidding activity at “show time.”

PCGS Population: 3; 5 finer (all Proof-64 DCAM).
