1876-CC Type I/II. Tall CC. AU-58 PCGS.
This brilliant Centennial-year trade dollar from Nevada’s capital city mint is all you could hope for in an AU-58 coin. The coin is minimally marked and resembles a mid-range Mint State specimen at first glance. A trifling amount of rub on the high points can be seen under low magnification; many might independently call the reverse Uncirculated. Indeed, the slight rub is more the result of mishandling than of service as pocket change to our eye. After the large one million piece-plus mintages of trade dollars in Carson City in the two preceding years, the mintage of the denomination fell off sharply in 1876 to 509,000 pieces; that figure was down over a million pieces from the 1875-CC production tally. Choice for the grade and certainly worthy of serious bidding consideration.
